BUSAR stands ready 24/7, 365 days a year, responding to emergencies in the Great Smoky Mountains—day or night, rain or shine. Many missions extend well beyond 12 hours and require our team to travel deep into the backcountry, sometimes hiking 15 miles or more through challenging mountain terrain.

Although we work closely with and receive tremendous support from the National Park Service, our operations are funded entirely through individual and corporate donations.

These vital contributions ensure we can train effectively, maintain essential equipment, stay mission-ready, and provide community education that keeps visitors safe.
